Preparing For a Move
Moving is a stressful process that everybody has to face once in a blue moon. It turns into a nightmare if you don’t prepare for moving, packing and supplies beforehand, and even though the preparation itself is such a hassle, it’s much better than leaving everything to the last minute and panicking then.
The easy way out of the stress of moving is leaving everything to the moving company, but it is not recommended. By doing the packing yourself, you not only save a lot of money, but you will be familiar with what each box contains, and this makes unpacking significantly easier. Packing your belongings yourself also means that they will be handled properly and packed carefully, thus reducing the risk of getting your items damaged while it is being transported to your new home.
Making a checklist will also help a lot for the moving process to go smoothly. When relocating, a new address means having to notify others about it as well, so notify any relevant companies and friends. List out what you need to do or buy during the weeks prior to the move, as well as what needs to be packed. Moving is a great time for you to finally sort out the items that have been lying around the house for ages, so sell or donate what you don’t need before you move.
Buy the packing materials you need such as packing tape and bubble wrap, and be sure to purchase strong, durable moving boxes of suitable sizes to pack your items. When you are packing, make sure that the boxes are not overloaded. Keep heavier items at the bottom and pack the boxes tightly to prevent them from sliding around during the move. Also remember to keep your valuable goods with you at all times.
